If you are an auto racing fan, you definitely know about the Daytona International Speedway. This is definitely the only spot in the world where sprint and even endurance racing comes to life. It would not be wrong to say that the Daytona International Speedway is the very heart of the world of motorsport racing. This place has been at the top of all the racing games since over a century. It had very humble beginnings in the year 1903. However, the speedway is now known as the Birthplace of Speed. A lot of speed trials have been the markdowns of this beautiful track which has many sand beaches and roads that move through the tri-oval-shaped 2.5 mile tracks. The real Daytona International Speedway, as we know it today, was born in the year 1959 and has since been at the forefront of the auto racing world.
This wonderful racing track was created by Bill France (the founder of NASCAR). In the year 1936, shortly after he moved to Daytona, he participated in an inaugural 3.2 miles race at the Daytona Beach. He reached the fifth spot in the very first race. Later, he became a promoter for the races and introduced many stock car and even motorcycle racing events in this area. He founded NASCAR in 1948 as well. The growing population of the area was becoming a problem for the track and Bill proposed the establishment of a racing speedway that later came to be known as the Daytona International Speedway. In November 1957, the construction of the Speedway started in full swing. Two years later, the Speedway which was known as the World Center of Racing hosted the first ever Daytona 500. About 59 cars took the challenge to participate in this event while a crowd count of 41,000 held their breath to watch the action live. Learn how scott tucker prepare for this said event.
The first Daytona 500 became a great hit as a historic winning tie occurred between Johnny Beauchamp, Joe Weatherly and Lee Petty. While Johnny had already declared his victory, the results had something different in sight. Lee Petty had won the race by just two feet. This is one of the most historic wins in the history of car racing. Currently this speedways hosts the Daytona 500 Weekend, the Daytona 200 Week by Honda, the Daytona KartWeek, the Coke Zero 400 Weekend Powered by Coca-Cola and many more big and small events.
